Children’s Couture: Why Spend Big on Designer Kid’s Clothes
I was watching television the other day when a famous celebrity’s kid popped on the screen wearing the latest designer kids’ clothes. These were no ordinary kid’s t-shirts or kid’s shirts, these weren’t even cool shirts; they were just overly trendy kids’ clothes designer labels.
While the kid’s clothes looked nice, he was like a coordinated accessory for this celebrity mother’s wardrobe. I’m sure he would have been more comfortable in regular kids’ clothes like kids’ t-shirts and jeans.
Unlike the kids’ t-shirts and pants I wore growing up, I knew this kid’s clothes weren’t found on a sale rack. But how much did his famous mom shell out for these designer kids’ clothes?
I went online to find out. Having purchased plenty of kid’s clothes, kid’s t-shirts and kid’s shirts for my nephew, I expected to see outrageously high prices designer kid’s clothes.
Of course, I was right. Here’s the break down of his designer kid’s clothes. His coat was over $300 and his shirt was over $100 and his pants another $125.That’s more than I usually pay for a suit.
It’s just astounding at how much parents will pay for kid’s clothes, kid’s t-shirts, kid’s shirts and other cool shirts. My online research show kid’s clothes aren’t cheap. A pair of True Religion Boys’ Jeans runs $105. It’s the same for kid’s clothes for girls with a Juicy Couture Girls’ Puffer Vest running $178. Kid’s clothes and kid’s t-shirts make a big dent in a family’s income.
A recent study by the NPD Group confirmed by suspicions that parents are spending way too much on kid’s clothes, kid’s t-shirts, kid’s shirts and cool shirts. The report found nearly 25% a family’s discretionary spending will go to kid’s clothes, kid’s t-shirts and kid’s shirts, while 13% goes to leisure activities.
